Blogging 101

Blogging is become one of the most popular ways to communicate via the Internet.  While blogs were originally designed as a sort of public diary, today they are used for much more.  Blogs provide not only an opportunity to log on to the internet with your laptops to tell friends, family and peers about your life, they can help you market your business, educate the public and much more.  All it takes to create a successful blog is a bit of style and a lot of hard work.
Blogs are often used to provide an outlet for personal expression.  Some bloggers write about their life and experience, use them to tell friends, family and peers about current events in their lives or anonymously blog about issues they are facing. As a personal, but public, diary, blogs can be a great outlet.
Many business owners are turning to blogs to advertise their business as well.  Blogs work well as a marketing media for several reasons.  First, they provide a platform for business owners to discuss their services or products with the public. Second, they can help generate back-links for a primary website, which can increase search engine rankings.
Still others use blogs as a platform to educate the public about an issue, charity or cause.  For example, someone suffering from MS might use a blog to educate the public on the disease and how to help those who suffer from it. Charities often use blogs to help generate interests in upcoming events.
The most successful blogs are updated on a regular basis – often daily.  They utilize creative writing techniques and are very rarely formal in tone and voice. By committing to regularly updating a blog and writing interesting pieces, bloggers can quickly generate large followings and gain increased visibility over time.
